Roads and Streets
Committee Chair: Carlos Ulloa
"I have been in charge of the Streets department of the HHA for approximately two years. Most recently I have had success getting the city to resurface Fitch Dr. They are currently resurfacing Fitch. To my surprise a portion of Sycamore Ave. is also being paved. It is a welcomed side effect to negotiating the Fitch project. I am also looking into the Speed Hump program for our neighborhood. Finally, I am in close contact with the construction inspector for the proposed sewer work. He has pledged to try to get us notification of any sewer work one week in advance. Good intent has been established; I will hold them to an appropriate standard of efficiency. I am hoping to have the notices scheduled monthly or weekly on the HHA website."

MAJOR ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT COMPLETED AT FRANKLIN/HIGHLAND INTERSECTION.
Highland Avenue, heretofore known as State Highway 170, was formally relinquished to the City of Los Angeles, in August, 2006, when Assemblymember Paul Koretz (D-West Hollywood) presented a check in the amount of $3.2 million to the City of Los Angeles for street and traffic improvements.
The transfer in authority, an initiative of Councilmembers LaBonge and Eric Garcetti, meant that the massive widening project at the intersection of Highland and Franklin could begin.
The alterations along this critical north-south corridor that runs through the heart of Hollywood, was not without pain and seemingly interminable delays.
But, as 2007 drew to a close, the final work on the street lights, traffic signals and underground cables was completed, allowing traffic to resume a more normal form of congestion going into 2008.
This first phase of street improvements at Highland and Franklin includes installation of dedicated right-hand turn lanes, new street lights, street trees
(yet to be planted), and new traffic signals.
