NEWLY ELECTED BOARD OF DIRECTORS
LOOKS FORWARD TO A YEAR OF CHALLENGE AND CHANGE IN HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS: the sale of Yamashiro/Magic Castle properties, construction of a massive retaining wall on upper Sycamore, continuing road and street work, cut-through traffic woes and permit parking issues. And everywhere around us, development, development, development.
ON TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 2008,
HHA members gathered at Yamashiro Skyview Room to socialize, meet neighbors, elect a new HHA Board of Directors, and hear reports from Board Members regarding past events and future plans for this wonderful place we call home.
Board Officers for the current year were elected the following Tuesday, July 1, at the first official monthly meeting of the new 2008/2009 Board, as follows:
PRESIDENT: LANNETTE PABON Board Member, 2 years. 2005/7 HHA Secretary. Special Interest: Permit Parking. Lannette has produced and sponsored special events ranging from Disaster Preparedness to hosting HHAs 1st Annual Wine Tasting, providing City and Community leaders with the opportunity to enjoy her hospitality while learning of Hollywood Heights Associations top priorities. Throughout the past year, she has continued her commitment to the historic preservation of our community.
VICE PRESIDENT: ANDY ULLOA Board Member, 2 years. HHA Vice President, 1 year. Development Committee Chair, spearheading exciting projects and special events, to enhance and promote Hollywood Heights. As current CEO of the family business, and following in a long-standing tradition of involvement with community, Andys passion for his surroundings include active participation in neighborhood beautification and community development, in addition to his generosity and commitment to our neighborhood.
EXECUTIVE SECRETARY: DAVID ROSEN Board Member, 2 years. Committees: Design & Preservation. Special interests: Neighborhood preservation, traffic, crime. Would like Hollywood Heights to remain suburban, verdant, neighborly, and safe, as Hollywood turns into Chicago.
RECORDING SECRETARY: VICTORIA HOCHBERG Board Member, 20 years. HHA Recording Secretary, 6 years. Committee Chair: Design and Preservation. Co-chair: Hollywood Bowl Committee. Special concerns: Preserving quality of our neighborhood, bike lanes, vintage street lights, Jacaranda trees (River of Blue) along Highland Ave. Co-produced and directed, with Steve Hardie, the DVD presentation shown at our annual meeting on June 12.
TREASURER: JUNE MALTCHEFF Board Member, 14 years. HHA Treasurer, 9 years. Has lived in the community since 1972. Hope with more community input, we can make Hollywood Heights a stronger organization.
CO-TREASURER: FREDRICA COOPER Board Member, 22 years. HHA Co-Treasurer, 5 years. Past HHA Secretary, 11 years. Presides over website and E-mail Hotline. Instigated 1st Annual Great HHA Clean-Up, Co-creates HHA flyers. Special concerns: Crime, traffic, especially cut-through; parking; clean streets, sidewalks and house fronts. I would like to have every resident pitch in and clean up our streets.

HUGELY SUCCESSFUL CLEAN-UP EVENT
DRAWS A DELIGHTED CROWD.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED
IN THE 2ND ANNUAL
GREAT HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS CLEAN-UP
& YAMASHIRO RECEPTION
The most successful event in Hollywood Heights history took place on Saturday, November 17. Thats when Hollywood Heights residents, with the help of our CD4 Council Office and various city agencies, turned out in force to clean up our streets and make our neighborhood shine.
Residents worked shoulder to shoulder; sweeping, raking, shoveling, stooping and bagging up all manner of refuse and debris, from streets, sidewalks, curbs, corners and crevices. South Glencoe Way alone, produced 15 huge bags of waste, plus overflowing trash bins, bundled up and waiting at the curb for special Department of Sanitation pick-up, followed by a welcome visit from the street cleaning machines rarely seen in our community in recent years.
After the grunt work, the tired, happy laborers gathered in the Yamashiro Garden Court, for a celebration and buffet graciously provided by Andy and Carlos Ulloa, co-owners of Yamashiro and Magic Castle. In attendance were representatives from our CD4 Council Office, including Councilman Tom LaBonge, and CD4 Hollywood Field Deputy Stacy Marble, whose unstinting efforts were crucial to the success of the event.
If you didn't get to participate this year, be sure to join us next year. Its a truly rewarding experience, in which neighbors get to know neighbors, working together to do something wonderful for this very special place called Hollywood Heights.

WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD HEIGHTS ASSOCIATION WEBSITE.
The goal of hollywoodheights.org is to provide you with a highly responsive and interactive resource for a wide variety of information and services affecting our neighborhood. To that end, we have created a site that can be instantly updated with information from our President and Committee Members, rather than having to go through a "middleman" or outside webmaster. You'll find the most current information available concerning Traffic and Street Closures, Crime Updates, Meetings and Special Events (even a link to Local Weather), under our Traffic and Weather banner. There is a page spotlighting Design and Preservation, and an Of the Month link to a fascinating compendium of subjects including Pet of the Month, Person of the Month and Home of the Month. (Residents are invited to submit pets, homes and ideas for publication on the site). Please take a few moments to view our site, and then return often to check out the latest news.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
President's POV
Since 1983, Hollywood Heights Association has united our neighborhood and helped define its unique identity. So I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve as your newly elected President. I am extremely grateful for all of the hard work of past members, board members, and most certainly past Presidents. Malcolm McNeil, who served as President for the past four years, has left quite a legacy for me. As we embark on a period full of critical changes, including the sale of ten acres surrounding Yamashiro and the Magic Castle, there are many issues that will affect us in the months and years to come. New construction and city plans for the Hollywood area are the main concerns we tackle this year. Please join us each month to contribute your comments or send suggestions to a committee chair to be presented to the Hollywood Heights Association Board meeting. To find out who to contact, please check the "Committees and Reports" menu at the top of this page. We use the website to further our collective efforts in preserving our unique hillside community.
Help shape the future of Hollywood Heights and share your point of view!
Best regards,
Lannette Pabon
